BUT DID YOU SAY THAT THO? ...

3 Quick Communication Tips for Couples

Communication is key in honestly any relationship - whether that's family, friends and especially when it comes to dating! We’ve made a quick list to help y’all out though… So go ahead, open up some space for mental notes and thank us later.

Tip #1: It’s not about what you said…

Focus on nonverbal communication. Have you ever tried talking to a brick wall? Right… that is something MOST people wouldn’t do by choice. The way you sit whether slouching, arms crossed or moving around, that shows that you don’t care without you saying ANYTHING. So make sure when you are having conversation with your significant other, be attentive and listen not only with your ears but with your body as well!

Tip #2: Watch your tone… even in text

Before we go any further, DO NOT HAVE A PASSIONATE HEATED DISCUSSION OVER TEXT! We all have heard, “it's not what you say, but how you say it” #GoldenRule. Even though the words in a message thread do not have a voice (unless you have your phone read it to you), avoid that at ALL cost. Wait until you can meet up in person or even talk on the phone because sometimes, tone can be taken differently than you meant when the receiver is reading text messages during a heated conversation! So, let's just jump over that bridge while we still have a chance.

Tip #3: Soak it all in.... like marinated chicken

We saved the best for last! As easy as just listening sounds, when was the last time you did that? (We’re not judging you, just asking a simple question). Remember, effective communicators are always good listeners! Practice ACTIVE listening! Don’t have a discussion with your partner ready to combat what they have to say - this is not the Great Debaters. Sit, listen, understand and respond last.
